Taxonomic remark Type locality: Ouvéa [erroneous, or introduced?; see below]. Description based on an unspecified number of specimens collected by Lambert. One possible syntype donated by Lambert (MNHN 21338 ex collection of the Journal de Conchyliologie [not listed by Fischer-Piette 1950]) has dimensions (102.3 × 51.9 mm) larger than those given by Gassies (86 × 40 mm). Lambert very likely had several specimens at his disposal and the MNHN specimen is not the one measured in the original description. To stabilise the name, we herein designate the MNHN syntype as lectotype. Bulimus guestieri and B. lamberti were described simultaneously from material collected by Lambert on Ouvéa. If the type locality is not erroneous, then the material may have originated from a population translocated for breeding and farming (see also Fig. 194); it matches exactly the shell characters of fibratus from the Ile des Pins (Fig. 20). [details]
