Biology Type of larval development: direct (non planktotrophic) denoted by paucispiral protoconch.  [details]

Diagnosis Shell 1.8- 2.1 mm high, with protoconch of 1.5 whorls and teleoconch of 2.75 . Protoconch covered by minute spiral threads, hardly appreciable under the optical microscope; teleoconch with a very faint sculpture of weak axial lines and minute spiral striae. Body whorl sometimes with an indistinct keel in prolongation of the suture, or rounded. Outer lip always with a thin edge even in full grown specimens, smooth inside. Inner lip thin, bordering a narrow umbilical chink. Shell entirely white, translucent.

This rather featureless species most resembles the North European P. turgida (Jeffreys, 1870), the main difference being the more impressed spiral striae on some specimens and the more solid shell. It is found rather on the uppermost part of the Lusitanian seamounts, whereas P. turgida is found in 90-700 m in Norway but has its main bathymetric range between 500 and 1500 m in Bay of Biscay.  [details]

Distribution Galicia bank, common in 685-1125 m; Gorringe, Josephine and Ampère seamounts, common in 205-485 m; Seine seamount, rare at 250 m. Canary Islands, rare in 310-1650 m.  [details]

Type locality Gorringe seamount, 36°34'N, 11°30'W, 305-320 m. [details]
