Taxonomic remark Type locality: Baie de Boulari. Description based on material collected by Lambert, 5 specimens cited by Gassies. The specimen illustrated by Gassies (1873: 50, pl. 2, fig. 5) is not in MNHN (type collection of the Journal de Conchyliologie). In the absence of historical material, it is difficult to interpret this form with a conical shell and imbricate sculpture. Kobelt (1891: 129) hypothesised that it probably represents a monstrosity, but could not explain the simultaneous occurrence of 5 teratological specimens. If the type locality was not erroneous, the size suggests that this is f. souvillei. Alternatively, it may have represented an extinct population, or the description may have been misleadingly erroneous. [details]
