Moellendorff (1898: 132) introduced this taxon as a subspecies of Cochlostyla (Phengus) cincinna (G. B Sowerby I, 1841) with Bulimus romblonensis L. Pfeiffer, 1842 as a synonym. No description or discussion is provided. Cochlostyla (Phengus) cincinniformis mutatio tritaeniata Moellendorff, 1898 is very briefly described by Kobelt and Winter (1905-1914: 263), but it is not the same taxon as this (see Moellendorff: 1898: 133). Bulimus romblonensis (Hypselostyla romblonensis (L. Pfeiffer, 1842) is considered distinct here.
