Classification Molecular data (Geiger & Thacker, 2005: Molluscan Research 25, 47-55) suggest that Scissurellidae are not monophyletic and that (Scissurella + Sukashitrochus) is the sister group to Lepetodriloidea in a crown clade with Haliotidae, and Anatoma is amongst the most basal Vetigastropoda including Pleurotomariidae. Anatomidae was treated at family rank by Geiger & Jansen (2004), and for lack of a better alternative, Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) have classified it as a family of Scissurelloidea.
This was disputed by Kano (2008: Zoologica Scripta 37, 1-21) who does not believe that Anatomidae should be separated from Scissurellidae and suggests that this result was induced by contamination or mislabelling.  [details]
