Type material 1 specimen, Holotype, NHMUK 1879.2.26.155, Locality "China Seas" (Adams & Reeve); Locality "W. Africa" written on the wooden tabled from which the specimen is today detached. Measurements 29,3 mm x 10,3 mm.
The holotype is a young specimen and still rather small for the species. All characteristics of the species are however sufficiently developed. The type material of Locard's Mesalia flammifera and Mesalia flammifera var. simplex is of similar size, and conspecific with the holotype here discussed, as such confirming the synonymy. [details]
