From editor or global species database
Nomenclature Sowerby (1829:126) initially described the species as Turritella concava yet added a note in the "Corrections and Observations" (prior to page 1) as follows:
"226, for Turritella concava, read Turritella excavata, and add Syn. Cerithium excavatum, Cuvier & Brongniart, Env. de Paris, 399, t. 9. f. 10.
Obs.- We had published this as a Turritella before we observed that Brongniart had given it as a Cerithium: we retain our generic name, which Brongniart seems inclined to think may be right".
In addition, Sowerby lists the page number incorrectly in the "Corrections" as "226" should be "126".
From Sowerby's note, and from the specimen being more in the scope of Cerithium rather than Turritella can be concluded that Turritella concava Sowerby, J. de C., 1829 is to be considered within Cerithidae rather than Turritellidae, leaving the specific epithet concava available within Turritellidae, meaning that Hutton's 1877 Turritella concava is accepted, and Finlay's 1924 Turritella albolapis an unnecessary replacement name for the latter.
