Status The name is often cited as "Melanopsis antiqua Férussac, 1823" in the literature, but obviously was not intended as species-group name by Férussac (1823). The name became available from Pallary (1916) who associated the name with an illustration in Férussac (1823: pl. 8, fig. 2). Wenz (1923) listed in synonymy the name Melanopsis flammulata De Stefani, 1877, which is the oldest available name for the taxon. [details]
