Nomenclature Le Renard & Pacaud (1995) considered Cerithium melanioides Sowerby, 1816 to belong in Brotia (Tinnyea) and treated Cerithium vittatum Lamarck, 1804 as its subspecies. However, vittata takes precedence over melanioides. [details]Synonymy Considered synonymous with the younger (!) Melania inquinata Defrance, 1823 by Curry (1960). [details]
