Taxonomic remark Type locality: “Koumac, in the Tiebaghi mountains” [erroneous]. The area around Koumac and the Tiebaghi mountain has historically and recently been well explored malacologically and no other specimen resembling that described by Pain has ever been found in the region. The type locality is erroneous, as are those for several other taxa described by Pain. Holotype NHMW 1981.118 (not examined). Besides size, the overall shell shape, the uniform dark periostracum of the last whorl, and the very large aperture strongly suggest that this is a slender form of f. souvillei. [details]
