Nomenclature There are divergent views on whether Idas Jeffreys, 1876 is really preoccupied by Idas Mulsant, 1875 (a hummingbird name currently not in usage). Some authors e.g. Vokes (1967), Bernard (1978), Warén (1991, 1993), Huber (2010), considered Idas Mulsant either nomen nudum or published December 31, 1876 (therefore later than Idas Jeffreys, [November] 1876) and consequently retailed Idas Jeffreys, 1876 as the valid name. Mietto et al. (2019) convincingly demonstrated that Idas Mulsant, 1875 is an available name (because it was defined by the inclusion of the available species “magnificus Vieillot [1817]”, type species by monotypy), and also pointed out that Mulsant's 1876 paper in Annales de la Société Linnéenne de Lyon was published as a separate booklet in 1875, thereby predating Jeffreys' name. Idas Jeffreys, 1876 is therefore a junior homonym but could possibly be recovered if Art. 23.9 of ICZN is invoked: Idas Mulsant, 1875 does not seem to have been used as a valid name since 1900 .and, in order to declare Idas Jeffreys, 1876 "nomen protectum", it should be shown that it has been used in more than 25 works by more than 10 authors in the last 50 years. Mietto et al. have cited 29 such works, but instead of invoking Art. 23.9 proposed to use the replacement name Idasola Iredale, 1915 as the valid name [details]
