From editor or global species database
Type designation Laube, 1868 used the genus name for the first time and included three species (Pleurotomaria binodosa Münster, 1841; Natica armata Münster, 1841 and Delphinulopsis arietina Laube) without providing figures and descriptions. Therefore, Delphinulopsis arietina Laube, 1868 represents nomen nudum, but the genus Delphinulopsis Laube, 1868 is available since it was based on two available species (Pleurotomaria binodosa Münster, 1841; Natica armata Münster, 1841). Laube [1870, Denkschriften der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe, 30: 2, 30] designated Delphinulopsis arietina Laube, 1870 as type species, but this was not an available name when the genus was established in 1868; therefore, all type designations of D. arietina as type species are invalid. D'Orbigny [1850, Prodrome de paléontologie, 1: 190] transfered Pleurotomaria binodosa Münster to the genus Trochus, where it became a secondary homonym of Trochus binodosus Münster, 1841 [Ibid.: 107], and established Trochus helirius as a replacement name. Kittl [1892, Annalen des Kaiserlich-Königlichen Naturhistorischen Hofmuseums, 7: 62] considered that Laube [1870: 30, pl. 33 fig. 3] had misidentified "Delphinulopsis binodosa (Münster, 1841)" and established the name Delphinulopsis laubei based on Laube's specimen. The type species was cited as Pleurotomaria binodosa Münster, 1841 by Bandel [2007, Bulletin of Geosciences, 8: 233] and by Karapunar & Nützel [2021, Zootaxa, 5042: 140] without an explicit type fixation. A type species should be fixed under Art. 70.3. [details]
