Status Friend et al. (2023) selected Caviturritella mansfieldi as the valid name for this species based on an incorrect...  
Status Friend et al. (2023) selected Caviturritella mansfieldi as the valid name for this species based on an incorrect assumption. They stated: "We were not able to locate the type of holmesi [sic] in the WFI collections. We therefore consider striatum Tuomey and Homes and holmesii Dall to be nomena [sic] nuda." However, the mere absence of type material does not make a name unavaiable. Tuomey & Holmes (1856) properly described and illustrated the species, and Dall (1892) introduced a replacement name for the secondary homonym Turritella striata (Tuomey & Holmes, 1856), non Schumacher, 1817.
The correct name of the species thus has to be Caviturritella holmesii (Dall, 1892). Revision required! [details]
