Status This species is the type species of Oopecten Sacco, 1897. Bongrain (2015) classified it in the genus Gigantopecten Rovereto, 1899, which would make both genera synonymous. Bongrain (2015) even discussed the possibility of synonymy but, for whatever reason, gave precedence to Gigantopecten. [details]
