Etymology Named combining the type locality at Hook Head, County Wexford, and plax for plate. The name also recognises the recurved posterior beak of the single valve holotype, and honours Dr Charles Sigwart, father of the first author, affectionately known as Dr Hook for his distinctive left hand prosthesis.
