Etymology Tengusa is a general term for seaweed belonging to the red algae family Aligadaceae, of which Gelidium elegans Kützing, 1868 is a representative. It occurs at depths of 5–15 m in southern Japan and on which this new Benimakia species lives. Local fishery divers collect the weed to make agar, a gelatinous substance used in food (jelly food strip material “kanten” or “tokoroten”). -cola means “to dwell on or in something” in Latin.
