Type species Gray originally included in Standella two nominal species, S. fragilis and S. aegyptiaca [without author/date]. The type species fixation is discussed by Petit [2012, Zootaxa, 3214: 95], who accepted that Dall [1898, Transactions of the Wagner Free Institute of Philadelphia, 3(4): 886-887] had fixed Mactra fragilis Gmelin, 1791. However, Huber [2015, Compendium of bivalves 2: 834] argued that Gray's description of Standella fragilis applied to M. pellucida Gmelin, 1791, and not to M. fragilis Gmelin, 1791, and under Art. 70.3 he fixed "Spisula fragilis Gray, 1853 (= Mactra pellucida Gmelin, 1791) non Mactra fragilis Gmelin, 1791", as type species of Standella.
