Homonymy Harris & Palmer stated that Sphaerella Conrad, 1838 is invalid because it is a junior homonym of Sphaerella Sommerfelt, 1824 ["for a protozoan"]. Their Timothynus is not a replacement name for it (different type species), and the two names are not objective synonyms. It is unclear whether Sphaerella Sommerfelt, 1824, listed in Catalogue of Life as a synonym of Chlamydomonas [Chlorophyta, hence not a name regulated by the ICZN] is to be considered a senior homonym under ICZN Art. 2. [details]
