The three-volume book is a collection of (parts of) 13 previously published journal articles by Gemmellaro and Gemmellaro & Di Blasi, which are reprinted with updated synonymies, modified or omitted introductions and in different order. Based on in-text citations and synonymies, the dates given (1868, 1869, 1871) are clearly erroneous, and the entirety of the book was likely published in 1876, the date of the introduction. The original descriptions of new taxa from the 'Calcare a Terebratula janitor' are contained in the individual journal articles.
