Taxonomic remark Name established without description but with reference to “Voluta aurismalchi Gmelin” [= Helix aurismalchi Müller, 1774; see above] and to Chemnitz’ figures 1039-1040 (which also represents the lectotype of Bulimus bovinus). To stabilize the nomenclature, we here select as lectotype of Ellobium australe the specimen illustrated by Chemnitz (1786: pl. 121, figs 1039-1040); as this lectotype is lost, we designate the neotype of Limax fibratus (above) also as neotype of Ellobium australe Röding, 1798, which thus becomes an objective synonym.
