Nomenclature Wenz (1924: 223) introduced this genus as replacement name for the junior homonym Cyclotellina Wenz, 1923, non Cossmann, 1886. Unfortunately, Wenz himself erroneously used a different spelling (Procyclotella) in the corrigenda chapter of his Fossilium Catalogue (Wenz 1930: 3040) and his systematic catalogue of the Gastropoda (Wenz 1938), which was used by subsequent authors such as Stworzewicz (1995).
