Classification The type species of Palaiana is an extant species collected from Lord Howe Island in Australia, and the classification of a Miocene fossil from Poland in the same genus is rather unlikely. Apart from the large stratigraphic and geographic discrepancy, the distinction is morphologically supported by the presence of a parietal denticle. Harzhauser & Neubauer (2018) introduced Occidentina as new genus. [details]
