Taxonomy Originally proposed as subfamily of Conidae although ranked as "Famille Siphopsinae" [sic] in Pacaud & Le Renard, 1995....
Taxonomy Originally proposed as subfamily of Conidae although ranked as "Famille Siphopsinae" [sic] in Pacaud & Le Renard, 1995. Invalid because the type genus type genus Siphopsis Le Renard, 1995 is a junior homonym of Siphopsis Rafinesque, 1819; Syphopsis Le Renard, 2005 and Syphopsinae Le Renard, 2005 are replacement names.
Siphopsinae was transfered to Buccinidae by Schnetler (1997), based on Boreosiphopsis which, however, is not confamilial with Siphopsis (Le Renard, pers. comm. in Bouchet et al., 2017). The placement of this group is currently uncertain.
