Synonymy Wenz (1929) synonymized Melania brocchii Michelotti, 1847 with Ptychomelania buccinella assuming that the latter was validly described by Sismonda (1842). However, that name is a nomen nudum, it was validly introduced by Sacco (1895). Consequently, the earliest valid name of the species is Ptychomelania brocchii. [details]
