From editor or global species database
Type material 1 specimen, syntype, NHMUK 1958.6.11.12 mounted on a wooden tablet, ex. coll. H. Cuming (acquired NHMUK in 1866), together with two other specimens, Reg. Nrs 1958.6.11.13-14 which appear not conspecific at first sight. Examination has shown that there is no difference in the "life cycle" of these two shells as compared to the syntype, yet their general appearance is much more flat-sided with sharper cords. Probably they too are infraspecific variations of the highly variable Turritella gemmata Reeve, 1849, just like the syntype here examined. The synonymy as proposed by Marche-Marchad (1960:868) is here supported. [details]

Synonymy Marche-Marchad (1960:867-868) accredits Dance & Salisbury for choice of the preferred name after their examination and comparison of the type material of Turritella gemmata Reeve, 1849 and Turritella candida Reeve, 1849. Under Art. 24.2.1, however, as neither Dance nor Salisbury published the synonymy and preference, Marche-Marchad is to be considered "first reviser". [details]
