Status Garrard (1972:311) placed the name Turritella captiva Hedley, 1907 in synonymy of T. declivis Adams & Reeve, 1850 and placed the latter in the genus Gazameda, a vision followed on the AMS website, yet not substantiated through currently ongoing research. Herbert (2013:412-413) examined both declivis and captiva and separated the South African species from the Australian species, confirming their validity as accepted species, a vision here substantiated.
