Type material 1 specimen, holotype, NHMUK 1986185 showing the morphological characteristics of Colpospira. Examination has shown this specimen is congruent with Turritella granulifera Tenison-Woods, 1876, which is a somewhat granulated specimen of Colpospira australis (Lamarck, 1822) (syn. fide Tryon, 1886; Tate & May, 1901). Based on this similarity, the present nominal species is here considered synonym of the latter.
Houbrick (1986: 434) reported the holotype as “not found” and proposed to treat this name as nomen dubium. A note conserved with the type indicates that it was sent on loan to Houbrick for examination in 1986-1987 – presumably subsequently to his April 1986 article. (Documentation NHMUK ref. MC0043T)
