Status According to Brunton & Cooks (in Brunton et al. 1967) the geographic origin and age of the Anomia caputserpentis type material is uncertain; earlier reports naming the Italian Tertiary (Thompson, 1927) or the Cretaceous of Sweden as possible origin. Bergström & Hageltorn (1968) proposed that Anomia caputserpentis might be a Campanian (Cretaceous) form from Scania more commonly referred to as Terebratula praelustris Lundgren, 1885. In any case, the type material is fossil and not conspecific with extant material referred to Anomia caputserpentis by Linnaeus (1767) and d'Orbigny (1847). [Andreas Kroh, 11 Feb. 2016] [details]
