Nomenclature Modell declared Dentaspathariinae as a "nom. nov." and cited Pseudaviculinae Modell, 1942, as a synonym. However, the type species of Dentaspatharia is Unio galloprovincialis Matheron, 1842 from the Cretaceous of France, whereas the type species of Pseudavicula Simpson, 1900, non Hudleston, 1890, is the Recent Unio johnstoni E.A. Smith, 1893 from Central Africa. Thus, Dentaspathariinae is not a nomenclatural replacement name for Pseudaviculinae, but a taxonomically separate family-group name. See also Prisodontopsinae.
