Biology Type of larval development: direct (non planktotrophic) denoted by paucispiral protoconch. [details]

Diagnosis Shell 1.6 to 2.4 mm high, with protoconch of a little more than 1.25 whorls and teleoconch of 3 to 3.25 whorls. Protoconch smooth, teleoconch with strong axial folds equivalent in size to the interspaces and a very faint indication of spiral cords. Body whorl rounded with 7-8 spiral cords abapically.
Teleoconch with characteristic “Porosalvania” microsculpture consisting of minute (ca. 1 µm) pits randomly distributed, visible only under high magnification of scanning electron microscope.
Outer lip thickened externally at a short distance from the edge by a faint rim hardly more prominent than the axial folds, then thinning out to a cutting edge; smooth inside. Shell white.
This species most resembles the sympatric (on Plato seamount) P. diaphana Gofas, 2007, which is still more slender with the axial folds very faint.  [details]

Distribution Cruiser seamount, common at 670 m; Irving and Plato seamounts, moderately common in 710-790 m; Atlantis seamount, rare at 610 m. [details]

Type locality Cruiser seamount (32º15.9'N, 27º31.8'W, 670 m). [details]
