Plate 9 was published prior to 1877. Semper used the name Cochlostyla lacerata Semper n. sp. for figure 5 on this plate with no description. Later, he changed the name to Cochlostyla paradoxa to avoid confusion with Helix lacera L. Pfeiffer, 1854 (Dryocochlias). On pg. 217, published in 1877, Semper described Cochlostyla paradoxa as a new species, citing pl. 9, fig. 5. Cochlostyla lacerata C. Semper is considered here a nomen nudum since no description was given and Cochlostyla paradoxa C. Semper, 1877 as the proper species name.
