Type locality Originally as "An der neuen Steige oberhalb Hohenmemmingen mit Schale und am Michelsberg bei Ulm als Steinkern", but the latter locality is not mentioned in later works. The strata at Hohenmemmingen belong in the Upper Freshwater Molasse (late early to early middle Miocene), for which the species is very typical, while the strata at Michelsberg are considered much older (Aquitanian). Perhaps the record from latter locality does not even correspond to the same species (considering also that the preservation as steinkern may complicate identification). [details]
