Nomenclature The earlier names Solen rotundatus Spengler, 1794 and Solen gladius Röding, 1798 have been put forward by Huber (2010: 664) and S. rotundatus presented as the valid name to be used for this species. However the name Solen marginatus is in usage and was declared “nomen protectum” by Cosel et al. (2014), with Solen rotundatus Spengler, 1794 and Solen gladius Röding both declared “nomina oblita”.  [details]
