Synonymy There is confusion about the type species and synonymy of the genus in the literature. Several authors list Sulcopotomida as valid genus (e.g. Papaianopol 2003), but they incorrectly give the type species as Unio cymatoides Brusina, 1874. The actual type species, Unio subclivosus Teisseyre, 1911, is referred to the genus Wenziella in the paleontological literature. However, that genus is currently considered a synonym of Potomida (see e.g. Vinarski & Kantor 2016). Consequently, also Sulcopotomida is a synonym of that genus as well. [details]
